Tonal representation
The P-ToBI inventory contains 5 boundary tones:
3 monotonal: L%, H% and !H%
2 bitonal: LH%, and HL%

Portuguese varieties make a more restricted use of contrastive tonal boundaries, when compared to other Romance languages/varieties.
Occasional instances of an initial Intonational Phrase boundary tone (%H), usually in complementary distribution with another kind of initial peak (e.g., H*) have been described, for example, in SEP. In BP, a low tonal boundary may optionally mark the right edge of an early focus constituent (L-).
