Sound Variation: phonological knowledge and applications

Rodrigues, DLGR, FLUL Short description: The sound inventory of Portuguese. Its phonological analysis with reference to phonetic variation within European Portuguese (EP). Identification of 'problematic' sounds (i) in the acquisition of EP as native language and second language, (ii) in the teaching of Portuguese as native and non-native language, and (iii) in the area of speech therapy intervention (pathological or deviant speech). Knowing which speech sounds allow a classification of speakers according to regional and social factors, thus contributing to the work in forensic phonetics.
